How to price a plumbing job

Profitable pricing starts with knowing your true costs, then building in overhead and the margin you need to keep the lights on. This calculator walks the same path a good estimator would:

  • Direct cost — labor hours times your loaded hourly cost, plus what the materials cost you.
  • Overhead — a percentage on top of direct cost to cover trucks, fuel, insurance, the office, and software that no single job pays for on its own.
  • Margin — the profit you want left over, expressed as a share of the final price. The calculator divides your total cost by (1 − margin) so the margin is measured against the price, the way it should be.

The result is the price to charge, plus a plain breakdown of labor, materials, overhead, profit, and your effective markup. Adjust the sliders to see how a small change in overhead or margin moves the number.

This is an estimate to guide your own pricing, not professional advice. Your real overhead and margin depend on your business.
